Love is Steady, Love is Slow
Autumn was a curious girl with a big question on her mind.
“Daddy, what’s love like?”
He paused and smiled, “I’ll tell you tomorrow, my love. It’s bedtime.”
She sighed, “Okay, daddy,” and kissed him goodnight.
He whispered, “I love you,” and turned off the light.
He wondered how he’d answer her question, feeling unsure.
Then, he had a grand idea. “I’ll help her understand by showing her!”
So he spent the night planning a wonderful surprise.
When morning came, he awoke Autumn with a twinkle in his eyes.
Little love, let’s greet the morning sun with a warm hello.
It’ll take time to get ready–
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s plant a seed and guess when the first sprout will show.
It’ll take time to wait –
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s journey to the beach and gaze at the waves ebb and flow.
It’ll take time to admire–
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s bake a cake for our friends who are feeling low.
It’ll take time to cook, –
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s study the history, joys, and pains of peoples long ago,
It’ll take time to learn, –
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s make cards for all the friends we’re blessed to know.
It’ll take time to write –
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s talk of our hopes and dreams under the starry night’s glow.
It’ll take time to listen–
Love is steady, love is slow.
Let’s count all of our blessings from our heads to our toes.
It’ll take time to remember–
Love is steady, love is slow.
“There are so many ways to show love, but they all take time.
I hope I’m worth yours, I know you’re worth mine.
Autumn felt her heart singing and dancing as she snuggled into bed.
She felt the power of a love that was both shown and said.
Papa tucked her in and rose to turn off the light,
But she stopped him saying, “Wait, daddy!” and held him tight.
Autumn smiled at the wonderful day he had planned for her,
She wanted to thank him, but how? She felt unsure.
Then, beaming with a grand idea, she hugged him close and said,
“Love is steady, love is slow. I love you daddy, more than you’ll ever know.”
